Double Roof Rack

What radical modifications can I do to my 1992 Nissan 4wd pick-up to get BETTER GAS MILAGE?
As I put $4.25 per gallon of regular unleaded fuel into my versatile mini truck last night I wondered what modifications I could do to it to get better milage beyond tune-ups,proper tire air pressure, removing roof racks, coasting, and lightening the load.I began to critique things like the power steering pump, tire size, air conditioning pump, air intake, the front air dam, canopy (shell)or tonou bedcover or go tailgate’less w/o bedliner, removing the passenger mirror, smoothing dents/new paint for smooth body,Lexan covering voids in the front grill, removing the transfer case+front axle shafts, saltflat moon wheel disks, removing the trailer receiver hitch and finding a way to cowl the windshield wiper arms.As I pondered these thoughts up pulls a small car.I compared the two.Small trucks are useful,as are enconomy cars…What modifications could I do to double my milage as I appreciate the versatility of my mini truck?
tire size
worry more about wheel material than size. a lightweight alloy will help some
air conditioning pump
if you can live without it, pull the entire system. that’s a good bit of weight
bed cover or go tailgate’less w/o bedliner,
bed cover with a lightweight slotted tailgate, or a normal metal tailgate kept up. it does help fuel economy, by trapping some stationary air which will have the same effect as a solid bed cover. counterituitive, i know, but it works
removing the passenger mirror
every little bit helps, but make sure it’s legal first
smoothing dents/new paint for smooth body
a step further; replace every body panel you can with fiberglass replacements. and be sure you remove any old paint to save weight
removing the transfer case+front axle shafts
you’d have to see a pro about that
removing the trailer receiver hitch
removing unneeded parts is always helpful
and finding a way to cowl the windshield wiper arms
some aftermarket hoods can do that (if you can find a fiberglass one), though they’re often a bit pricey
