how cold of water can you use a 4/3 wetsuit in?

I have a 4/3 wetsuit for surfing and was wondering how cold of water I could get away with it in. i also have a 3/2 shorty and wanted to know if its possible to layer the wetsuits

How well do you tolerate the cold? No one can answer that for you. Personally, a 4/3 suit is plenty for me in the low 50s (Fahrenheit), but not everyone tolerates the cold the same. You can ‘layer’ your suits, but it really cuts down on your flexibility, and I would not recommend it. It sometimes wear my 2mil vest under my 3/2 full suit, but that is on days in the low 50 to mid 50s too. As I get older and closer to 60, I don’t tolerate the cold like I did in my youth. But, that is about me, and not answering your question. If you are fairly comfortable and confident in the water, and smart enough to recognize how cold is too cold, my best answer is try it and see.
