making your own surfboard design?

I live in New Jersey and I surf year round. This past fall I hit a pier and i got my board fixed. The guy did a really good job, the board is justa little “ugly” looking now on the bottom(about 3 inches wide across the width of the board) i wanted to get a design or something to cover it up a little bit. What should i use? should i invest in an airbrush? paint pens? sticker?
I’m sure John F. will help me with this one…

I feel obliged to give a fellow Jersey surfer an answer, although I am the least artistic guy in the world. Some of my favorite boards have been Fugly. I am no fan of hand drawn paint pen designs. Unless somebody really artistic does them, they usually look kind , “childish”.. Now, there are good artist who can do ‘em, and if you put a clear coat over ‘em, it’s not a bad idea. Sometimes the best way to fix up a repair job like that is to use a coat of tinted clear coat resin. The color contrast from deck to bottom looks neat, and you are sure that you have a smooth consistent surface on the bottom of your board. One of my favorites was deck and bottom tint coated, after a few too many dings, and I really liked the look. It is important to remember that you don’t want to mess up your bottom contours. You can effect your ride. Good luck.
